About Shillong

Shillong is the city capital of Meghalaya State, north-eastern India. The city is located in the east-central part of the state on the Shillong Plateau, at an elevation of 4,990 feet (1,520 meters). Shillong, first became prominent in 1864, when it succeeded Cherrapunji as the district headquarters. Shillong, a popular tourist destination, is at the core of one of the largest urban areas in north-eastern India. It is an important trade center for agricultural products and has research stations focusing on dairy farms, fruit, and silk production. It also has the Pasteur Institute and Medical Research Institute and is the home of North-Eastern Hill University (founded in 1973). The Barapani hydroelectric station lies a few miles to the north. Popular tourist attractions include Ward’s Lake, a lake with a charming wooden bridge; Golf Links; and the Elephant Falls on the town’s outskirts.

About the College

St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, Meghalaya, was established as a Don Bosco institution in 1934 as a public Educational Institute to provide higher education to build a career in Commerce & Management, Humanities, Social Science, Science, and Computer Applications. St Anthony’s College is approved by the reputed UGC, accredited by NAAC, and is affiliated with NEHU, Shillong. The college envisions providing quality education to each section of society considering socially, economically, culturally, and educationally disadvantaged groups. The college emphasizes value-based learning for students and nurtures a culture of solidarity. It aims to develop morally upright individuals who are socially committed and capable of building a human social order. The college has 25+ departments, including Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, Geology, Economics, Chemistry, Mathematics, etc. Various UG, PG, and Diploma programs are offered in this college.

The Department of Computer Science, St. Anthony’s College, was established in 1991. Since its inception, the department has, over the years, produced graduates who went on to become successful research scholars, and academicians or take up administrative positions. The department faculty constantly dedicates itself to academic excellence and adopts a holistic approach to education in line with the vision and mission of the College.  

Reaching Shillong by Air

To reach Shillong by air, one has to take a flight to Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, Guwahati, Assam. From there, one can reach Shillong in 3 hours by hiring a shared taxi.  

Reaching Shillong by rail

The nearest railway station is in Guwahati. From the railway station, one can travel by bus or shared taxi. It takes about 3 hours to reach Shillong.
